It’s been a year since I moved my blog over to Substack. I had hopes for better engagement and reach within the platform but it just didn’t work out for me. I started with about twenty readers and I still have that many, of which only five or six open the emails.
I share each post to seven hundred people on twitter and still end up with maybe five to ten views each time. Now, the reason for this is due to the content. I use this as a personal blog which isn’t going to be interesting to most people. My other Substack MOSFET Mag has short fiction and steadily gains subscribers even with limited updates. I will still be using Substack to manage MOSFET for the foreseeable future.
The new blog is much simpler. Like, bare bones simple. README.TXT simple. No popups, or apps, or subscriptions. I don’t need your email. Your inbox is already at capacity. The whole site is free to read in any imaginable web browser since it’s built with Hugo and is a thin folder of HTML and markdown files. It feels more like the olden days of personal text-based blogs and less of the monetize everything you do modern animated CSS internet.
